Start-up Expenses Worksheet

Every dollar it takes to open the doors, itemized before you spend it.

1. One-Time Start-Up Costs

This is everything you pay one time, before you open the doors. Think registration, licenses, equipment, and getting the space ready to use. A lender or investor wants to see this list itemized, not lumped together, because it shows you have thought it through.

Use the rows already here as a starting point. Change the wording, delete a row you do not need, or add a new one for anything specific to your business.

Item Amount Remove
Total One-Time Start-Up Costs $0.00

2. Monthly Operating Expenses Before Revenue

Most businesses do not make money the first day. This section is what it costs to keep the doors open for one month, before any sales come in. Enter your normal monthly amounts for rent, payroll, and the rest.

Then tell us how many months you want in reserve. Three to six months is common. We multiply your monthly total by that number, so you know how much cash to have on hand before you need a single customer to walk in.

Item Monthly Amount Remove
Total Monthly Operating Expenses $0.00

Monthly total × months = reserve

Total Operating Reserve $0.00

3. Funding Sources

Now list where the money is coming from to cover everything above: your own cash, a loan, investors, a grant, or anything else. This is how a lender sees the whole picture in one place, what it costs and how it gets paid for.

Total Funding $0.00
